Join me for a NEW Appliqué Quilt-Along! (QAL)
This QAL will celebrate the release of my brand-new Hand Appliqué Sampler quilt pattern!
Share that you’re making the quilt top on Instagram:
When posting, use #handappliquesampler and tag @heidi.parkes in the text and in the photo.
Commenting on posts is one of THE MOST FUN aspects of a QAL.
Share and celebrate the work of other quilters working with the pattern in your stories. Be sure to share why you like their version. Tag me in your stories so I can amplify them in my stories too.
The class includes an Instagram Group Chat, so you can re-share your posts & reels there. (This a work around, since #’s aren’t what they used to be on Insta.)
This September 2026 is my 13-year Quiltiversary! 🎂 I sewed my first fabric quilt by hand in September 2013. How long have you been quilting? This pattern is GREAT for beginners. ❤️
Quilt-Along Suggested Schedule:
Post 1: Share the image above in a carousel. Also include some fabrics that you’ve pulled for your color palette. Introduce yourself with a photo of you, your sewing space, and/or any pets that may be helping you sew! Show them in any order on the carousel.
Post 2: How precise do you plan to be? Very accurate, approximate, or wild?! Why does this approach suit you? Do you have any tips for others who are navigating these options? (You can share partial images of the pattern, but please don’t show the whole pattern)
Post 3: By Step 8 in the pattern, share something that surprised you. Aluminum foil, tiny snips, placement, fabric?
Post 4: Spotlight some other people making the pattern, be sure to tag them in the caption and the photo along with Heidi. What are they doing that you like?
Post 5: By Step 16 in the pattern, share something that you’re eager to do again. Bird feet, thin lines, whip stitches, hollow shapes, “shingles,” slip knots, what do you want to remember to revisit in another quilt?
Post 6: Share some detail photos of your work. Zoom in with your camera, and maybe apply some photo tips from Clare Britt’s 6-minute photography tutorial
Post 7: As you approach the end of the pattern, how does it feel to make a quilt top with only appliqué? Do you prefer a hoop or no hoop? Do you like to finger press or iron? Does it feel relaxing to follow the pattern precisely, or are you having fun making your own variation?
Post 8: Share a distance photo of your finished quilt top! Maybe take a picture of you holding your quilt outside? Perhaps a slow-motion reel of your quilt?
Post 9: Share about basting and quilting!
Post 10: Share your finished quilt top!
*This is a suggested list. You are welcome to post more than this, skip a prompt, or respond to the prompt you wish I’d listed. ❤️ Have fun sharing your quilt!
We will gather together on Zoom on Sunday, September 27th to celebrate our progress and ask questions.
I’m so excited to see what you come up with. Please seal your commitment to participate by commenting on THIS blog post. Include where you’ll be sharing (Instagram, Pinterest, Nook, Brave Patch, Sew Squad, etc.), and your Insta handle or PINTEREST link as applicable. Also, if you already know any fun details about your quilt-to-be, please share them here. ❤️
